The Dnipro History Museum has joined the Mobile Digital Laboratory (MOCEL) project implemented by the Agency for Cultural Resilience. The museum team is currently working with a professional A4-format scanner, which significantly accelerates the digitization of museum collections.
Participation in the project will support the creation of an online digital gallery envisioned as a comprehensive platform for preserving and working with the museum’s collections. The gallery is intended to provide open access to materials and serve researchers as well as a wider audience.
As a priority, the museum plans to digitize an extensive collection of 19th-century Katerynoslav photographs, unique images of pilots navigating the Dnipro rapids, and archival documents such as extracts from parish registers, marriage records, and other materials reflecting everyday life of past generations.
According to Sviatoslav Chyruk, Deputy Director for Research and PhD in History, the idea of a digital gallery emerged in response to repeated requests from users seeking access to the collection. He emphasized that the platform will fulfill two key goals — preservation and the ability to work effectively with the materials.
Founded in 2020, the Dnipro History Museum is one of the youngest museums in the city. Its collections currently include around 3,000 items and continue to grow. Due to the war, a significant part of the collection has been evacuated.
The Mobile Digital Laboratory (MOCEL) project is implemented by the Agency for Cultural Resilience under the curatorship of Ihor Poshyvailo with support from international partners — Cultural Emergency Response, ALIPH Foundation, and the Dutch National Archives (Nationaal Archief).
