The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv and Agency for Cultural Resilience Ukraine (ACURE) invites applications to participate in a one-day roundtable and workshop dedicated to cultural heritage stabilization and approaches to war memorialization in Ukraine.

About the Event
This roundtable and workshop will present the results of U.S. Government-supported cultural heritage stabilization project implemented in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions in 2025. It will also create a platform for discussion on how societies remember war, honor veterans, and develop meaningful memorial practices.
The event will bring together approximately 30-40 participants, including heritage professionals, architects, policymakers, cultural practitioners, and representatives of veteran communities engaged in recovery processes.
Invited speakers from the United States will share practical experience in cultural heritage protection and war memorialization, including community engagement and collaboration with veterans.
The event aims to:
• Highlight U.S. Government support for cultural heritage stabilization and recovery efforts in Ukraine
• Share challenges and practical lessons from projects implemented in frontline regions
• Present approaches to war memorialization
• Foster dialogue between Ukrainian and U.S. professionals on heritage protection, remembrance, resilience, and recovery
• Strengthen professional networks and U.S.–Ukraine partnerships in the cultural sector
Program Overview
The workshop will consist of two main sessions:
Session 1 – Cultural Heritage Stabilization in Practice
· Stabilization project in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Key results and approaches
· Challenges & Lessons Learned of other stabilization projects
· Community engagement in affected regions
· Q&A with speakers
Session 2 – Memory, Recovery, and Cultural Heritage
· How can cultural heritage support community recovery?
· How can lessons from U.S. experience be adapted to Ukraine?
· How to balance national narratives and local experiences?
Each session will include moderated discussions and opportunities for networking.
We welcome applications from:
• Cultural heritage professionals and practitioners
• Architects and urban specialists
• Representatives of local and national government
• Museum and cultural institution professionals
• Representatives of veteran communities
• Participants involved in regional recovery projects, particularly in Mykolaiv and Kherson
Participants will gain:
• Insight into real-life stabilization projects in frontline regions
• Exposure to international (U.S.) experience in memorialization
• Opportunities to exchange knowledge with peers and experts
