Under the guidance of UNESCO, the Agency for Cultural Resilience (ACURE) team carried out the rescue of artifacts from the museum-archive of the Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Mykhailo Boichuk, which was at the epicenter of destruction.
In March 2024, a Russian missile struck the academy building, causing extensive damage. Thousands of items of painting, weaving, embroidery, ceramics, jewelry, and poster art were rescued from the rubble.
Most of the recovered artifacts are diploma works of students and faculty. Among the unique items are linocuts from the late 1920s by the repressed artist Maria Kotliarevska, born in Horlivka.
👉 The next stage of the project involves stabilizing priority groups of items with the participation of volunteers from the national cultural rescue team and restorers from the National Research and Restoration Center of Ukraine. At the same time, a training on saving cultural valuables during crises will take place.
The clearing of the academy building’s rubble was carried out with the support of the UNESCO office in Ukraine, the Government of Japan, and the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
